History of Florida Mission Center
In the fall conferences of 1997 the four former Districts of peninsular Florida directed the Florida Region to proceed with the opportunity of "field testing" a pilot study of field re-organization. This was in response to a World Church mandate to explore more meaningful and productive ways of providing mid-level management and ministry. The Florida Region officially entered the pilot study program effective February 1, 1998. The pilot study had an expected testing period of 3-5 years. We officially became a Mission Center on June 1, 2003.
The Florida Mission Center is a mid-level judicatory of the Community of Christ acting as a support and resource center to over 1000 members in 20 congregations throughout the peninsula of Florida. The geographical area extends from Tallahassee to Miami. It is also the administrative and major communications link between the International Church headquarters in Independence, Missouri and local congregations.
The Florida Mission Center has developed a support network of resources and teams of qualified individuals to assist congregations in many needed areas of ministry. For a list of current leadership click here.
