About Us Q: What is the Florida Mission Center? A: The Florida Mission Center is a mid-level judicatory of the Community of Christ acting as a support and resource center to over 2700 members in 23 congregations throughout the peninsula of Florida. It is also the administrative and major communications link between the International Church headquarters and the local congregation. Q: What does FMC stand for? A: FLORIDA MISSION CENTER. Our vision is: "The FMC will be a ministry that calls and enables congregations, members, and friends to follow Christ on the path of the disciple." Our mission is: "The FMC provides spiritual ministries, leadership, training, services, and resources to inspire and support congregations, members, and friends in their discipleship." See current goals, and objectives. Q: Who is employed by the FMC? A: The Mission Center President Bob Watkins and Mission Center Financial Officer/Congregational Support Minister/Missionary Coordinator Jane Watkins are employed by the World Church and assigned to the Florida Mission Center in those positions. Debbie Bartlett is hired on a part-time basis as the Mission Center Administrative Assistant/Recorder and works out of her home Monday through Friday 9:30am to 1:00pm. Q: What about Field Specialists? A: Field Specialists are employed by the World Church and supervised by the Florida Mission Center and its local jurisdictions. Currently we have two in the Florida Mission Center: Greg Milam, FMC Youth Minister; and Rudy Perez, Church Planter for the South Miami congregation. Q: When did the Florida Region become the Florida Mission Center? A: In the fall conferences of 1997 the four former districts directed the Florida Region to proceed with the opportunity of "field testing" a pilot study of field re-organization. This was in response to a world church mandate to explore more meaningful and productive ways of providing mid-level management and ministry. The region officially entered the pilot study program effective February 1, 1998. The pilot study had an expected testing period of 3-5 years. We officially became a mission center on June 1, 2003. Q: What is the geographical makeup of the Florida Mission Center? A: Presently there are 23 congregations in the Florida Mission Center. The geographical area extends from Tallahassee to Miami. Q: What ministries and resources are available to congregations? A: The Florida Mission Center has developed a support network of resources and teams of qualified individuals to assist congregations in several needed areas of ministry. Currently there are persons involved and knowledgeable in these areas: Congregational Consulting; Pastor/Leader Training; Priesthood Training; Strategic Planning; Church Planting; Temple School; Newsletter/Publicity; Internet Web Pages; Congregational Evangelism Consulting; Personal Witnessing; Elderhostel; Outreach International; Worship and Community Building; Stewardship; Youth & Young Adult Ministries; Cherishing Creation; Disaster Readiness; Social and Legislative Issues.
